Patagonia hoods are made of high-end Japanese superstretch neoprene for an amazing mold to your head. The exterior is made of smoothskin to deflect wind, and the interior is a super warm (even when wet) merino wool lining. Seams are sealed to keep cold water out.
3mm hoods are generally appropriate for 60 degrees and up
Patagonia does wetsuits differently. They stand behind every suit with a lifetime warranty (does not cover wear and tear, of course.)

Worth the cost!! I have been a huge fan of Merino wool prior, and the Merino liner in this cap allows warmth with-out any itch. Ordered a size small, as my hat size is 7, and with my bald head it fit snug, yet comfortable. Used it last week in Iowa windsurfing, day temp 48 degree,s and never once felt cold and YES I was in the water as I fall ALOT! Before I ordered I actually called Patagonia and spoke to a rep there. Very helpful, and they care about quality and about the earth we live on. Cool all around.
High Quality, Very Warm

This cap is really well made. I have two other caps (the Quiksilver Cypher and O'neill Squid Lid) which do the same thing, and I have to say that the production quality of this one is at least two levels above the other two.
The cap is fully lined on the inside and the outside material is relatively thick. So it keeps you very warm. I used it in ~53 degree water and ~39 degree air yesterday, cause I generally prefer a warm cap to a hood. The thing that looks like a brim on the photo doesn't really come out. The front just extends to cover your forehead up to your eyebrows. So there is no brim, which in my opinion is a good thing... cause my experience with caps like this one is that the brim always flips up when you duck dive and then you gotta pull it down with your hand... which is the last thing I wanna be doing while I'm trying to get past the pounding zone.
The cap is relatively deep. It covers almost my entire head. The size guide is almost spot on. My head circumference is 22 and 1/4 and the M is just a sliver too big -- sometimes it flushes during duck dives and the front covers my eyebrows all the way. I also tried the S and the M seems to fit better regardless of the small amount of flushing. With wetsuit caps a smaller size doesn't necessarily equate less flushing, cause a cap that's too small for your head will come off/flush easily, too (in addition to feeling uncomfortable).
Overall this cap is really warm and really awesome.
