Wetsuit thickness is measured in millimeters, and some styles have multiple thicknesses to help ensure that your core stays warm. Women's wetsuits of 1mm and 2mm are good for water temperatures of 70 degrees and higher. A 3/2mm wetsuit is recommended for 60 to 69 degree water; 4/3mm for 52 to 69 degree water; 5/4/3mm for 45 to 51 degree water. If you plan to extend your season and stay active even when water temperatures drop, consider a hooded wetsuit, which can be worn in water temperatures as low as 35 degrees.
